Home learning week beginning 4.11.20

Spelling activities:

1. Work through the homophone powerpoint. Can you think of your own? Practise the words in the spelling list.

2. Complete the matching pairs act.

3. Complete the wordsearch and use some of the words in your own sentences.

4. Ask an adult to test you on six of the words from the spelling list.

English activities:

1. Watch the video on noun phrases and complete activity 1 using the following links

2. Using the image from the file manager section (English image) generate nouns (man, grass, house) and two adjectives to describe each noun (tall, sad man/ tall, wavy grass) etc.

Using the noun phrases created from the image can you use them and include a preposition to say where 

dusty house in the distance 

bright sky above  

gigantic trees below 

sad boy next to

3.  Watch the story of The Night Gardener video. Look at the image of the boy drawing on the ground and the man walking past. Answer the following questions: 

• How is the child/man feeling?

• What is the atmosphere? 

• What are they both doing and why? 

• Do they know each other? How do you know? 

4. Using the video stop at the following illustrations – Cat Tree/Rabbit and Parrot Tree. Share what you can see  and try and turn them into expanded noun phrases like in activity 2. 

 

Maths act:

Write 3 + 5 = 8 and 30 + 50 = 80 What is the same what is different?

Draw base ten to show this. Now ask how could I work out what 40 +30 =

Repeat with 6+ 3 =       so  60 + 30 and 2+2=       so 20+20 =

write the calculations from the maths work found in file manager and complete in your home learning book.

Guided reading:

1. Access Living in a Castle on active learn

look through the text and identify the following features - text box, main heading, contents page, glossary, captions. Find out the meaning of the following words by sing a dictionary: defended, guarded, boiling, jester's, special prayer write the definition in your blue book.

2. Choose a heading from the contents page that you would like to learn about, read and write about what you have found out.

Art:

Watch the following video and using paint and objects from around the house create your own repeating pattern. An alternative is to draw and colour your own repeating pattern using simple shapes (circle, squre, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon etc) . Use the art image in files to download to help.

Ask: What is it like to belong to our school? How do we show belonging? eg uniform. Extend ideas of belonging to our school community and what is most important to us as a school. Use PowerPoint on the church Yr. 2 slides 1-13 explore what is found in a church building that shows belonging. Explore belonging using pictures of font; altar and the organ.  Ask: What do these pictures show about belonging to the church? What can they tell us about the people who go here? Use slides 20-24 pictures of people (use your own local church people if possible).  Ask: How do we know these people go to church? Look at slides 16-24 and think:  ‘I wonder what is important to this man/lady?’  What is important to the people in this church?
