Year 1 Trip to the Gauntlet Birds of Prey Centre

What an amazing day at the Birds of Prey Centre! When we arrived the children had the opportunity to look around all of the aviaries. The children saw over 120 birds from over 25 species, some of these included Buzzards, Hawks, Falcons, Kites and a large variety of Owls. They also saw Eagles, a Griffon, Caracaras, Seriemas, Ravens and amazing Marabou Storks. The children were amazed by all of the birds, what they looked like and the noises that they made.

We then went into the classroom to learn about some of the birds and to watch them fly. All of the children who wanted to were able to hold and stroke the Little Owl and some of the children had the opportunity to help to fly one of the other birds of prey. We were taught why their bodies are perfect for the things that they need to do and we were also able to watch some of the birds eat mice and small chickens.

At the end of the day we watched a flying demonstration outside and were able to see a huge eagle fly over our heads! This was very exciting!

A huge thank you to our parent helpers that came with us.
