PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am

English

Watch and listen to the story of 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers (or read it together if you have the book!)

In your green work book, write a list of the things the boy and the penguin might pack in their suitcase. If your child is able to, they could sound out the sentence, 'I would take...' - don't worry about correct spellings.

Maths

Time

Show the children the measuring time PowerPoint.

Discuss the different ways we can measure time.  Show the different objects that we can measure time with. Add numbers to the round analogue watch face in your pack or print out a similar watch here. Cut it out - you've made your very own watch.

Topic

Use a piece of paper to make an origami boat.

Tuesday

PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am

English

Watch and listen to the story of 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers (or read it together if you have the book!)

Look at the picture from Lost and Found (It may need rotating). In your green work book, write a sentence about the picture - this could be as simple as - 'It is a...' If your child is struggling let them have a go and then use a light coloured pencil to write their sentence - then they trace over it.

Maths

Time - How can we record or count time? Children might suggest physical counting, clocks, timers etc. 1 minute challenge – all stand up and then sit down when one minute has finished… Recap the positional language in the book. Where does the boy go? Up? Over? Under? Make an assault course outside (or indoors if you prefer) – children to help make it. Make it simple with under, over, through etc.

Topic

Investigating the size and properties of boats to carry the boy and the penguin to/from the South Pole. Try and get a few different types of objects that float - even if it is only for a little while -(sponges, cork, empty tissue box) available for the children to test. don't forget paper boats from yesterday! If you have any junk that can be used children can make their own boat afterwards.

Maths

Complete 2 different challenges from the home learning challenges found here.

Topic

Discuss how some things float and some things sink. If possible get a number of different items to demonstrate e.g.  a large rock, bottle top, wodden peg, pop stick, feather, coin, key, gem stone, button, shell and a leaf. Place them into a washing up bowl (or similar) and watch what happens - keep stating whether each item floats or sinks and sort them into 2 piles - things that float and things that sink. Then have a go at the interactive activity. (Click on direct download and then open in a web browser to run. Sorry, I don't think this will work on tablets)

Thursday

PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am

English

Show the children the picture from under the sea. Chat about what there is and what they know. Ask them to think of a sentence based on the picture. Write it in their green books and then try to do 2 more. Add a picture above their writing.

Maths

Watch the video of the story 'Peace at Last,' by Jill Murphy. Ask the children what they did yesterday, what have they done so far today, what will they do next? What will they do tomorrow? If possible, look at the day or night powerpoint quiz. If not think and talk about what things they do in the day and in the night. Draw a picture of something they did this morning and then another picture of something they will do tonight.

Topic

Print out the Under the Sea colouring file here. The child should try to read the sentence and then carry out the instruction. Provide help as necessary. If you can't print the document look at the pictures below and ask them to draw ' a pink octopus' or 'a red crab.'

Friday

PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am

Superwrite! (Your children know what this is!!!) Look at the picture below. Ask your child to say what they can see. Talk about what might be happening. Ask them for a sentence that you write down slowly, sounding out words as you write, so that they can see you doing it. Repeat until you have 3 sentences. Read through the sentences you have written before removing them and asking your child to write up to 3 sentences of their own - they may be the same sentences that you modelled.
