Week Beginning 30th March FS2 - Reception Classes
Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 7:49pm
Week beginning 30.3.20
In light of our devastating news about Miss Larkins last week, we are renaming the phonics groups as they always carry the name of the person leading that group. The children may or may not know about our sad loss, but for the sake of all children and staff, we have renamed them.
Miss Larkins’ group is now GIRAFFES
Mr Walker’s group is now TIGERS
Mrs Thomas’ group is now ELEPHANTS
Monday
Phonics
Giraffes - write a sentence with the word dog in.
Tigers - Write a list of ten words that begin with ‘ch’
Elephants - Write a list of ten words that begin with or have ‘ch’ Put one of them into a sentence.
English
What do we know about penguins? Where do they live? What do they eat?
Show the powerpoint about penguins and then label the penguin on this sheet.
Maths
Log in to espresso and then complete the Easter egg counting activity here. What can you count around the house or in the garden?
Topic
Watch the video about egg decorating here. Then log in to Purple Mash and click here to decorate an egg. Decorate a hard boiled egg if you have any. Ask your parents to google the instructions and then learn how to microwave an egg in 60 seconds? A healthy way to eat eggs and really simple.
Tuesday
PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am
Phonics
Giraffes - write a sentence with the word cat in.
TIgers Write a list of ten words that begin with ‘sh’
Elephants - Write a list of ten words that begin with ‘sh’ Put one of them into a sentence.
English
Look at the powerpoint again, then, in their green books, write some facts about the 3 aspects shown: What they eat? Where they live? and how they survive?
Maths
Hard boil a real egg. Watch ‘We’re going on an Egg Hunt.’ Decorate with felt tip pens. Discuss the patterns you use when decorating – zig zag, wavy, stripes, dots. Can we decorate with a repeating pattern? In colour e.g. red yellow, red yellow or with shapes – circle square circle square. What are our favourite colours to use?
Use some big cooking spoons to balance them on. Have a race with your child in the garden or inside. Who can walk the furthest without dropping your egg? Who can balance their egg the longest standing on 1 leg? We could time it using our phone. We can count how many steps we can take. Can you balance your egg on your hand? Can you stand and balance your egg and count to 10 or 20? What about to 20 and back again?
Topic
Log in to espresso, watch the video here before completing the quiz here.
Wednesday
PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am
Phonics - play a phonics search game with your brother/sister/parents.
Write down the letters of the alphabet (or digraphs/trigraphs) – each on a different piece of paper. You don’t need all of them, perhaps the ones you find harder to learn. Place them around the floor and have one person shout out a sound to go to. Jump, land, throw a bean bag at that sound.
Or scatter them around and throw something at the sound – wherever your item lands, you have to say that sound. Can you think of a word with that sound? Can you write that word? Can you think of anything else with that sound? Can you write a sentence with that word in?
Giraffes- letter of the alphabet
Tigers – know all the letters of the alphabet and digraphs/trigraphs: sh, ch, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, qu. Same as above.
Elephants – know all the phase 3 sounds but need to recap on them all. (sh, ch, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo,oo ure, ear, air, er, ur. Same as above.
English
Think about something you lost once and where you found it. Play a game of hiding something and then having to find it. You could play hotter/colder to find the way to the item. You could write instructions as to how to find the item. Take it in turns with your partner to hide something and directions to find it.
Maths
Watch Shape Video on espresso. Sing “We’re going on an shape hunt We’re going to find them all. We’re really excited Hurray for shapes today!” Point out shapes in the environment and let your child record them on the shape hunt page or on a piece of paper. Encourage them to spot the shapes. How many did we get altogether? How many of each shape or number? Then play the shape monsters game here
Topic
Use whatever you have to hand to make a penguin. If we were at school, we would have been using something called model magic, which is like white pasticine but it dries solid, then we would have painted it. What resources could you use? Plasticine? Playdoh? Junk modelling? Garden resources? Natural resources? The possibilities are endless! Cardboard tube penguin instructions here. Or try drawing a penguin here
Thursday
PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am
Phonics - go on to Phonics Play at have a look at some of the games on there.
Giraffes – Phase 2
Both other groups - Phase 3
English
Write a post card from the penguin in the South Pole to the boy. What do you think the Penguin would say? How does the penguin feel at this point in the story. A post card tamplate can be printed from here.
Maths
Watch this video on espresso. Go into your garden and collect some sticks, pebbles or leaves. See what 2D shapes you can make using them. Which shapes are easiest to make using the sticks? Which objects are best for making a circle?
Topic
This afternoon, why not cut out an egg shape and decorate it. Rainbows are all the rage on the windows at the moment, but you could add your decorated eggs to them too. For a different way of manipulating materials, you could use paints and apply your pattern using ear buds, or the wrong end of a pencil.
Friday
PE - Kids Daily Workout live at 9am
Phonics
Today let’s play another game. Those in Mrs Tom’s group have played this a couple of times. It’s called cross the river. You will need some words put on pieces of paper (or sounds from yesterday) and place them like stepping stones in the room, or from one room to another. YOur child will say the chant below and then you can say “Only if you can find the word...(and then say a word they can jump onto)”
If you’re playing it with your mum, these are the words:
Yummy Mummy, Yummy Mummy, Can I cross your river?
Dearest Daddy, Dearest Daddy, Can I cross your river?
(You can make up your own!)
English
Superwrite! (Your children know what this is!!!) Show them this picture. Talk about it. Write about it.
Maths
Explore Maths City on Purple Mash -
All our children know that Friday afternoon is ALWAYS FIX IT FRIDAY! Ask them, they will tell you! This is when we don’t have anything organised for the children: we have things to fix. If we have missed something through the week, or need to improve on something this is the time that we do it. Either have a rest, play or go back and complete something from the planning that you haven’t done.
And finally, to calm everything down - Cosmic Kids Yoga
Don't forget to read some books on Bug Club over the weekend!
