Week 9 - Shivaratri

Maha Shivratri, also known as Shivaratri, is an annual Hindu festival and a major public holiday which is largely celebrated in India and Nepal in honour of Hindu God, Lord Shiva and their marriage.  It takes place at sundown on the 13th night of the month of Maagha in the Hindu calendar before ending at sundown the next day. Because it’s calculated according to the Hindu lunar calendar, it always falls on a moonless night and is on a different date each year.

Maha Shivratri is a celebration of Shiva and their marriage to Parvati. This marriage is seen as a true symbol of love and power.
