Week 4 - The Big Garden Bird Watch and Holocaust Memorial Day

Two themes this week where the Big Garden Bird Watch is something you can get involved in whilst you are at home by looking out of a window and observing the birds that visit.

Here is the link to record you results and find out more  https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/

Also, it is Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January - you will see survivors of this time on the news.  Try and listen to their stories of bravery whilst we too are having difficult times.

The theme of Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 is ‘Be the Light in the Darkness’. This is a message to humanity to be the light even in times of darkness. Darkness refers to prejudice, persecution, misinformation, injustice; even in those dark moments, we can be the light by confronting hate and prejudice, by standing up for people’s rights and illuminating mistruths.

Holocaust Memorial Day is the day when people remember the genocide of millions of Jews and other people who were killed by the Nazis during the Second World War. Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on the 27th of January. On the 27th of January 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated, therefore the 27th of January is a symbolic day, which reflects the hope that dark times come to an end.
