Week 10 - A spring in our step!

Why is spring called spring?

Did you know the season was not always known as Spring? Before, it was simply referred to as Lent in Old English. Starting in the 14th century, the time of year was called 'springing time' as a reference to plants 'springing' from the ground. In the 16th century, this was just shortened to 'spring'.

The Spring (or Vernal) Equinox occurs around the 21st of March. It is one of the two times in the year that the hours of daylight and nighttime are the same – hence the name ‘equinox’ meaning ‘equal night’.

Can you write a poem to celebrate World Poetry Day on 21st March about Spring?
