Buzz Club

A huge thank you to Harry Carlisle, a local historian and author, who was guest speaker at Buzz Club last night.

Harry has researched the lives of all the men named on local war memorials.  Some of the children brought the names of relatives who had fought and died in World War One and Harry was able to tell them about their lives and where and when they had died.

Alice  in Year 3 brought a photograph of the plaque in Macclesfield Town Hall which bears the names of her four Great Great Uncles, brothers, who died in World War One.  Harry had researched their lives and was able to tell her all about them, even the fact that Thomas Goodwin was the greenkeeper at Macclesfield Golf Club before joining the army.

Sophie in Year 6 wanted to know about a possible Worthington who died in the war and even though Harry couldn't find his name in any of his books, he went home; did some research and sent Sophie the information below this morning.

The children were particularly interested in the shell brought by Harry.  Apparently, this was a small shell yet it was half a metre tall. We hope to persuade Harry to come back and share more of his stories and wealth of knowledge.
