Assessment

Assessment Without Levels at Ivy Bank

Natiional Curriculum Levels have now gone and instead your children are assessed according to age-related expectations (ARE).  Children will be either emerging, developing or secure within their year group expectations.  For example, an average ability child in Year 2  will be Year 2 Emerging by the end of the Autumn Term; Year 2 Developing by the end of the Spring Term and Year 2 Secure by the end of the Summer Term.  Children who are working below ARE will be working to achieve objectives from previous year groups.

Teaching Mastery (Depth of Learning)

Teachers can no longer teach objectives from higher year groups; instead they have to help their pupils develop mastery of any objectives taught, so that the children can apply their knowledge to problem solving and across the curriculum.  The aim is to develop breadth and depth so that children have secure foundations.  At Ivy Bank we use School Pupil Tracker to track the progress of our pupils and we track the progress of our pupils in terms of their ability to apply knowledge through the use of hashtags.  A child with an average ability to apply knowledge will be a #2; a child who finds it difficult to apply knowledge will be a #1; a child who has a good ability to apply knowledge will be a #3 and finally a child who has an excellent ability to apply their knowledge across the curriculum will be a #4.  The hashtags allow us to show that a child is working above ARE without needing to move on into the next year band of learning.
