Year 6 2018 - 2019

Mrs Holt

This is my fourteenth year teaching at Ivy Bank and I have loved every minute. This is my ninth year in Year 6 and I enjoy watching the children have fun whilst learning at the same time. I love our end of year productions because they showcase just how talented and confident Ivy Bank pupils are.

Welcome to Year 6!

In year 6 we work hard and play hard!  We can't wait to take you to Condover Hall and London.  As well as these trips we will also complete Bikeability Training, run a Book Fair, organise a whole school fundraising fair and act as Buddies, Librarians and Guardian Angels.  Also, don't forget our end of year production and water fight!  You are going to be very busy!

Our topic in Term 1 is Extreme Earth.  We will be studying the physical geography of the Earth and looking at natural disasters: tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, tornadoes and forest fires. In English we will use 'Ice Trap', which is the story of Shackleton's Expedition to Antarctica

Our topic in Term 2 is World War II.  We will be learning about why the war happened and how it was fought.  We will also learn about how children's lives were affected by war. Have a look at the overview if you want to find out more!

Homework

Children in Year 6 are expected to read at least three times a week at home and you are expected to record all your reading in your reading record. Reading Records and reading books must be in school each day and records will be checked weekly.

In addition to this English and Maths homework will be given out on a Wednesday and will be due in the following Monday. Homework will be a variety of tasks set with the purpose of reinforcing work we have covered in the classroom that week. A note of any homework given out will be recorded by the children in their homework books.

There will also be termly, optional P.A.W.S. homework. The children are set a variety of tasks linked to the curriculum which they complete throughout the term.

As we near SATs the children will bring test papers home as homework.

P.E

P.E. is on a Monday and Friday each week.  However, during Autumn term there will be extra P.E. lesson on a Wednesday afternoon with a teacher from Macclesfield Academy.

The children require indoor P.E kit including t-shirt and shorts and for outdoor P.E they need leggings, shorts or joggers, t-shirt and trainers.

Please can all long hair be tied up for P.E. Children will need to bring a hair bobble if needed.
