Miss Hutter

I am in my fourth year at Ivy Bank and this will be my second year teaching in year six. I'm really looking forward to having a fantastic year with all the year 6's; watching them grow and achieve amazing things! The highlight of the year has to be our residential to Condover and the end of year production.

Mr Herd

Assistant Head and Year 6 teacher

Year Six at Ivy Bank!

Miss Hutter and Mr Herd have one full time teaching assistant, Mrs Copestake, as well as Mrs Hartley-Dickens and Mrs Herring, who work part time.

Welcome to Autumn Term in Year 6!

This year we will be very busy, teaching the full broad and balanced curriculum to the children. We will be using the new NCETM documents to teach maths, to ensure that when the children leave for year 7, they will have all of the knowledge and skills they need to move forward in their learning. In English, we will be using our Read2Write scheme to introduce the children to some fabulous texts, from which we will produce a wide range of writing. In SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), we will build upon the children's existing knowledge by focusing upon sentence structures and higher level punctuation.

Our history topic this term is World War 2, always a favourite with the children! In ICT, we will be looking at being safe on the internet, as well as coding skills. PE will focus upon tag rugby and netball, whilst indoors we will be doing gymnastics. Christianity will be our focus in RE lessons as children build upon their existing learning in earler years.

Homework

Children in Year 6 are expected to read at least three times a week at home. We understand that they are becoming more independent readers, however, they are expected to record all their home reading in their reading records and these must be signed by an adult.  Reading Records and reading books must be in school each day and records will be checked on a weekly basis.

In addition to this, English and Maths homework will be given out on a Wednesday and will be due in the following Monday. Homework will be a variety of tasks set with the purpose of reinforcing work we have covered in the classroom that week. We may sometimes giveout homeworks linked to the foundation subjects too.

As we near SATs the children will bring test papers home as homework.

P.E

PE for Miss Hutter's class is on a Wednesday and Friday each week; Mr Herd and Mrs Burnage's class have PE on Tuesday and Friday. The children require indoor P.E kit including t-shirt and shorts and for outdoor P.E they need leggings, shorts or joggers, t-shirt, trainers, a spare jumper and an extra pair of socks. Please can all long hair be tied up for P.E. Children will need to bring a hair bobble if needed. PE kits should be in school every day of the week, as we sometimes arrange additional activities.

Class Cover

Mrs Oliver and Mrs Nesbitt work within the year group covering Teacher’s PPA time (each teacher has time every week out of class for planning, preparation and assessment). These sessions take place on Friday.

Mr Herd also has management time every Wednesday, therefore Mrs Burnage teaches on this day.
