Mrs Barber

Mrs Barber

I have worked at Ivy Bank for over 20 years! In that time I have taught in year 1, year 2, and within the resourced provision. I love engaging children and witnessing the 'light bulb' moments! When I'm not at school I enjoy reading and going to the gym. I am looking forward to another exciting year in year 1, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries.

Mrs Thompson

I have been working at Ivy Bank since 2010 and in that time I have taught in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 6. Working at Ivy Bank is great fun because the staff are all very kind and friendly but most importantly the children are fantastic! When I am not at school, I like to go walking in the hills and spend time with my family.

I am looking forward to an exciting year in Year 1, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries: hthompson@ivybank.cheshire.sch.uk

Year One at Ivy Bank!

Mrs Barber, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Martin are the teachers and we have two full time teaching assistants, Miss Bentley and Miss Prest.

Welcome to Autumn Term in Year One!

Find out about what we are learning this half term download our overview below and keep an eye on our page where we will showcase what we have been learning!

Please find the Packtypes P.A.W.S optional homework for Autumn term below. Feel free to download the form and return to your class teacher when complete.

In line with Letters and Sounds, year one children are given a spelling based homework every Friday. We will have a spelling test on Thursday so please try to learn your words each week. Please can you ensure their homework books are in school on Fridays. Phonics games are also listed in our 'Useful links' section.

At the end of the year the children are expected to spell most of the Year 1 common exception words - please see a list of these words below:'Year 1 Spellings'. These can also be found on the inside cover of their homework books.

Every week we set a maths activity linked to what the children have been learning that week. This will also be set on a Friday and handed in on a Wednesday.

PE Kits

PE days are Wednesdays. At the moment we ask that the children come into school already wearing their PE kit on Wednesday.

As it gets colder, for outdoor PE your child will need leggings/jogging bottoms and a suitable top (they can wear their school cardigan/sweatshirt if you wish).  Children also need trainers.  Children also need shorts and t-shirt for indoor PE.

Individual Reading Books

Children are heard by an adult during the course of the week through individual reading and whole class guided reading. Children should be encouraged to read daily to an adult for 10 minutes, taking time to talk, answer questions when appropriate and to recap what they have read.

Children will be given a reading book on Monday and these need to be retuned to school no later than Friday. Over the weekend please use Bug Club if you wish to read with your child.

Class Cover

Mrs Nesbitt works within the year group covering Teacher’s PPA time (Each teacher has time every other week for planning, preparation and assessment).

Mrs Barber also has SENDCO time every Wednesday, therefore Mrs Martin teaches on this day.
