Year 1 2018 - 2019

Mrs Barber

Mrs Barber

I have worked at Ivy Bank for over 17 years! In that time I have taught in year 1, year 2, and within the resourced provision. I love engaging children and witnessing the 'light bulb' moments! When I'm not at school I enjoy reading and going to the gym. I am looking forward to another exciting year in year 1, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries.

Mrs Hayhurst

I have been a teacher at Ivy Bank Primary School for 5 years now and I have enjoyed every minute. The children certainly keep me on my toes and make sure that I have a smile on my face at the end of each day! I am a keen reader and I love nothing more than exploring the newest adventure in a story with my class.

Year One at Ivy Bank!

Mrs Barber, Mrs Broomhead, and Mrs Hayhurst have two full time teaching assistants, Mrs Brown and Miss Prest and Mrs Ford works 4 days a week.

Welcome to Summer Term in Year One!

This half term our topic is 'Houses and Homes.' We are going to be learning all about the different types of houses and learning about our local area. We are looking forward to our trip to the Silk Museum to learn all about the history of Macclesfield.

Find out about what we are learning this half term download our overview below and keep an eye on our page where we will showcase what we have been learning!

Please find the Packtypes P.A.W.S optional homework for Summer term below. Feel free to download the form and return to your class teacher when complete.

In line with Letters and Sounds, year one children are given a spelling based homework every Friday. Please can you ensure their homework books are in school on Fridays. Phonics games are also listed in our 'Useful links' section.

At the end of the year the children are expected to spell most of the Year 1 common exception words - please see a list of these words below:'Year 1 Spellings'. These can also be found on the inside cover of their homework books.

Every week we set a maths activity linked to what the children have been learning that week.

PE Kits

PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As it gets colder, for outdoor PE your child will need leggings/jogging bottoms and a suitable top (they can wear their school cardigan/sweatshirt if you wish).  Children also need trainers.  Children also need shorts and t-shirt for indoor PE.

Please can PE Kits remain in school all the time.

Individual Reading Books

Children are heard by an adult during the course of the week through individual reading and/or guided reading. Children should be encouraged to read daily to an adult for 10 minutes, taking time to talk, answer questions when appropriate and to recap what they have read.

Library day

The children enjoy their time in our library and are allowed to borrow books for two weeks. They can return their books before the due date by putting them in the returns box in the library. Our library day is every Tuesday. Please encourage your child to share their library book with you.
